A LITTLE ABOUT DON
At the age of 17, my best friend Mike gave me his old Canon A-1 film camera. Little did he know what this act of generosity would start. I instantly immersed myself in photographing, developing and printing only to discover that my love of all things photographic was immediate. Having thought that, for me, photography was more of a hobby than a career, I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Communications. I promptly began working in the hospitality industry culminating as the Director of Events at the renowned Beverly Hilton Hotel – experience which, incidentally, has proven exceedingly valuable for both me and my clients as they plan and I capture their wedding.
Having had the opportunity to travel rather extensively and seemingly never without my camera, my portfolio became predominantly comprised of nature, landscape and architectural images from destinations around the globe. Eventually, however, I began to shift my focus from places to people. Photojournalism began to captivate me for many of the same reasons that I love wedding and portriat photography today; I capture raw emotions and can tell the story with my images.
I am based in Texas and photograph weddings and portraits anywhere from Dallas to destinations around the world. I consider myself among the fortunate few that truly love what they do and am so very appreciative to those that have trusted me to capture their most special moments.
A Little More About Don
Q – What is your favorite moment during a wedding?
A – No question, my favorite moment during a wedding is the first time that the groom sees his bride!
Q – What is your favorite lens to work with?
A – It is so hard to pick just one lens however, for documenting a wedding the long 70-200mm lens has to be my favorite. It allows me to capture the intimate moments as they happen from a distance that ensures that I do not disrupt them.
Q – What might you do to help a nervous bride & groom relax while being photographed?
A – In a word, anything. If a couple is nervous, it will be seen in their images and that is clearly not what we want. Jokes, silly questions and a generally a positive & fun demeanor tends to be enough to put most anyone at ease.
Q – Do you have a favorite wedding image in your portfolio?
A – I actually do not have just one favorite image across all of our weddings however, I do tend to have one favorite image from each wedding. Typically, I recognize it as soon as it is captured and then can’t wait to see it on the computer.
Q – What is the best advice you can offer a soon to be married couple?
A – Above all else, enjoy your special day! Based on my own personal recollection, I can assure you that your wedding day will pass much quicker than you might think. Try not to let plans, timelines and agendas rush you or detract from your enjoyment of your wedding day!
